I Believe it's Time...

Photo: Kobiz7

Time for what?  Time to admit that I'm not sure it makes sense to create a blog and then not post anything in it.

It's not that I don't have a lot to say about my odd but gratifying brain-rewiring project... but I'm now thinking that Cranky Fitness might be a perfectly fine home for personal-growth type stuff after all.

The whole mind/body dichotomy is kinda old-school anyway, right? I can go back to defining "fitness" really, really broadly and then not have two blogs to feed. (Especially as the cupboards have been pretty bare lately and there are other projects in the works that I'm excited about).

I won't be rash and delete this thing yet, but let's just say we're on hiatus for now, and I'll see all 3 of you back at Cranky Fitness!

Personal Growth Cat Fight

So maybe it's not really a hissing, screeching cat fight.  Self-improvement gurus rarely bare their claws... in public, anyway.  But there do seem to be two very different approaches to the whole "how best to live life" question.

Can you pursue both at once? I'll be curious what other folks think.

Happiness is...

Happiness is...  A warm puppy?

Or an gold Olympic medal?

A hug?

Owning a 45,000 square foot house with a view of the ocean?

Toiling day and night in an impoverished country helping others get access to clean drinking water?

A huge clearance sale at Macy's?

Complete non-attachment to anything?

A hot fudge sundae with 3 flavors of ice cream plus caramel and marshmallow sauce topped with whipped cream and nuts and perhaps a nice cup of cappuccino to go along with it?

It's not exactly an original thought that everyone's idea of happiness is different. I admire the hell out of people whose idea of happiness is making huge personal sacrifices in order to help others.  However, I am not one of those people.

In fact a favorite evil and shallow form of entertainment (ego-tainment?) is to secretly laugh in amazement at some of the stuff that makes other people happy.

Seems to me there's a lot of cool stuff out there in the "personal growth" world.

But also a lot of annoying crap as well.  How to sort through it all and find strategies and practices that deliver greater peace and happiness?

Hell if I know! But I'm hitting a stage in my life where I'm suddenly more curious.

I thought it might be a good idea to write a thoughtful first post explaining where I'm coming from, what I've explored so far, what my goals are, and how I'd like to use the blog... but whoa.  That sounds way too hard.

Too much to say!  Too much confusion! Too many half-formed opinions!  Where to even start?

I suspect an introductory blog post of 145,732 words might put some readers off.  Hmm... is there perhaps some person out there who can help me?  Someone experienced in this sort of thing?

Ah yes! Lightbulb moment!  (The first of many, let's hope):
